The story of why the world went to war in 1914 is one which has been covered many times over in countless books, articles and college courses. Yet, as far as I'm aware, no podcast has yet been brave enough to tackle its complexities, its idiosyncrasies and its great events. In 2014 I set to tackle what I saw as this niche in the podcast market, in this July Crisis Anniversary Project. We take a day by day approach to the July Crisis - the name given to the month of faffing around which preceded the First World War., and in doing so we ask who, what, when and why in the hell did Europe make the decision to throw itself into the chasm of war. Since completing it, it has stood to me as one of my listeners' favourite projects, so I hope it will bring you as much joy in listening as I gained in creating.
